President Buhari, on Friday during his nationwide broadcast , confirmed that his administration has already commenced the employment process for 774,000 youths across all local governments in the country. "As part of the strategy to create jobs in reducing the effect of COVID-19 on our youths, I directed the employment of 774, 000 Nigerians. These youths will be engaged in Special Public Works Programme aimed at cushioning the effects of economic downturn".l said Mr President.
further speaking, the added that each of the 774 local government areas in Nigeria will be allotted 1,000 slots. I am pleased to report that this programme has commenced.
Recall that about two weeks ago, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, reiterated that the Special Public Works Programme, SPWP, was designed for unskilled rural workers and not graduates.
Furthermore, while revealing how the recruits would be picked, the Minister however disclosed that, 10 per cent of the federal government’s 774,000 temporary employment slots, will be allotted to political office holders in Nigeria.
