THE DEAD EARTH (PART 1).

Understanding environmental protection requires vivid explanation of the key terms of discussion- environment and protection. The term environment is derived from the French word environer which means to encircle or surround.  The Mariam webster English dictionary defines it as circumstances, objects and conditions in the surroundings which may have impact in the development or survival of an organism(s).
It can be deduced from the forgoing that an environment includes also the social, political, cultural, economic, physical as well as all forms of interaction between an entity and its surroundings which includes both biotic, abiotic tangible and intangibles. It is however worthy of note that all these interactions affect the existence of an entity either positively or negatively on the other hand, protection simply refers to the act or measures taken to guard a thing against damage caused by outside forces (Wikipedia). A thing in this content refers physical objects like organisms, vegetation, systems or intangible things like civil and political right.
Hence, environmental protection is simply a conscious effort to guard our environment against damages caused by external forces which is aimed at conserving its resources, repair already occurred damages as well as reverse negative environmental trends.

Why protect the environment in the first place? The famed industrial revolution of the late 18th to early 19th century came with its attendant environmental consequences. Most horrible ecological crises resulted from the urban industrial revolution as well as speeding exploitation of natural resources. A combination of the concepts of industrialization, urbanization and globalization has resulted to the influx of people into the cities across the globe. This phenomenon has led to the increase in the population of the destination regions which in turn resulted to overpopulation and pressure on available resources such as land, air, utilities and services in the destination region. These pressures manifests in the form of pollution, congestion, environmental degradation, global warming, desertification as well as high cost of urban governance. Globally, man-made pollutants from combustion, construction, mining, agriculture and warfare are increasing significantly.
Consequently, environmental pollution has adverse effects on humans. Poor air quality kills organisms as well as human. While respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, throat inflammation, chest pain and congestion are attributed to air pollution; water pollution causes approximately 14,000 deaths per day according WHO report in June, 2019. As noise pollution causes hearing loss, high blood pressure, stress and sleep disorder, oil spills cause skin irritation, rashes and the destruction of aquatic lives.

As population increases due to urbanization, demand for housing increases as well. This in turn means demand for employment and space. These means that more forests are likely to be cleared to build residential houses, schools, hospitals, roads as well as commercial and administration buildings. Hence, deforestation and desert encroachment as it applies. It should also be noted that as human activities increase, per capita waste generation increases as well.

Amazingly, a world bank report in June 2018 titled “A Global Snap Shot Of Solid Waste Management To 2050” puts the global solid waste generation at 2.01 billion Tonnes Per Annum with not less than 33%of this figure not managed in an environmentally safe manner. This figure is expected to increase to about 3.40 billion Tonnes by 2050.
On average, an individual generates about 0.74kg of waste per day. While daily per capita waste generation is projected to increase by 19% in the global North by 2050, the global south is expected to increase by approximately 40% 0r more. It might also interest you to know that per capita waste generation is expected to be more than triple by year 2050 in the sub-Saharan region of Africa, double in North America, middle east and south Asia. Wastes are currently open-dumped in these regions which has adverse effect on the environment, human health and national prosperity. Thus, urgent action is needed.
Finally, environmental protection is the responsibility of every individual, organization and government. Though the extent of damage to the environment remains debatable, the fact is that our environment needs urgent help.
Several environmental movements have evolved since the 1960s and is still counting to create awareness and educate the masses on the need for environmental protection. Many countries have established agencies such as the federal environmental protection agency (FEMA) in Nigeria to monitor, control and manage the environment.
International agencies like the United Nation Environmental Protection (UNEP), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Intergovernmental Panel on Climatic Changes (IPCC) as well as the Kyoto agreement among others are some of the efforts towards environmental protection globally. Also not left out is the conscious efforts by non-governmental organization such as Fight Against Desert Encroachment, Health of Mother Earth Foundation in Nigeria and their likes across the world.

DEATH AND THE MYSTERY OF RESURRECTION MORNING

It's always sad to lose a loved one. Sometimes we feel we didn't do much to keep them even though we can do nothing about it. That to me is the most painful aspect of losing someone we love. The agony of watching while life gradually ebb away from the one you love dearly, yet helpless and handicapped becomes the main reason for grief even when the person is long gone. It is never an experience I can wish for my "enemy".

No amount of grief or eulogy can reverse what has happened, the person is gone and gone forever. That is one sad truth we all have to come to terms with. So sad we have to wait till resurrection morning. But what if there is no resurrection morning? What if "till we meet to path no more is all an illusion? What if we are never going to meet again? Can we still recognize ourselves when we eventually meete? Are we still going to retain our names, family and complexions? What if we took different paths and never meet again?  The dictum of meeting again to path no more could just be a statement of hope out of hopelessness. Who knows🤷?

The 13th day of September, 2021 at exactly 9:15am I lost the most precious gift heaven gave to me to the cold hand of death. It was as if my world has crashed. Yes, it did crashed for months untill a light was shown me from the dark tunnel. I watched my mother who was Hale and hearty just three days before gradually become cold. What happened? Absolutely nothing explainable happened!

It is said that in every thing we should give thanks to God. Like we have been handed a choice. We cannot question her Maker for death is a debt. We must all pay it no matter what. Man is an eternal being but not in this sphere. We have a Maker and we  must go to meet him one day to account for our Enterprise on Earth. I strongly believe she has gone to be with the Lord and I respect that.

I respect and pride in the fact that she died a hero, an accomplished man in a woman structure. Agụ nwanyị, nwoke ka nwanyị, the strongest woman I have ever met. You fought well.

One testimony among your friends remains that , " ihere anaghị eme ọnye gị na ya so"...( No person with you will ever feel ashamed/ helpless).  You are the definition of hard-work, under the sun and in the rain (as the composer of the NYSC Anthem put it) , In health and in sickness you were always there.

I could remember vividly in 2008 when I finished writing my SSCE,  you asked me: " Ifeanyi what is next"?  Honestly I knew not what to answer because I knew how things had been. However, I made my intentions to further my education known to you. Honestly I thought you won't be happy to hear that, but it was as if that was the happiest thing you have heard in centuries. You were very supportive. Even when I had to change school in my year two, you were still very supportive. You  saw me through it all without help from ANYONE. You were so brave, hard-working, yet committed to the work of God.

Your commitment in the work of God almost made me think you can't just die. I always feel that you were untouchable. I banked and still bank on your prayers and sacrifices. All I needed to do was remind God of your sacrifices and that is it. I never had any reason to pray that much knowing fully well I have a praying mother.

But mum I'm not happy right now. I am not happy with you. I am not happy that after those years of sacrifices you just left. Just like that.

You couldn't even wait for the big day. You couldn't even wait to   come for ọmụgwọ 😥😥😥 . This isn't fair.

Who do I go home to? I guess I will have to stay away for a long time. It's cold and lonely back there😥. Honestly you didn't try even though I thought you made the best decision.

Watching you struggle to breath, talk, swallow  and move for days  was more painful than your death. At a point I prayed God should just take you away. It was three and half days of intense pain and struggle.

I wished my sleepless nights and efforts could save you. I wished my tears could save you. My two cents consolation is that you were sorrounded by people and things you treasured most before your death. I will always miss you. Even my children will know how much you would have loved them. They will definitely miss you. I will tell them how great their granny was.

But do not be surprised if I don't hug you on the resurratioon morning - if it does exist though; because I'm not happy with you.

You are gone but not forgotten... You won't be forgotten in centuries to come.

Rest on Odoziobodo,

Rest on Nee Ofodile,

rest on Ugoyibo.

Rest on Mummy...ọkanikpo is missing you dearly.

You will forever be in my heart.

GOOD NEWS FOR CRYPTO CURRENCY TRADERS: China’s central bank chief vows support amid ‘weak links’

The economy of the People Republic of China will return to its potential growth rate in 2022. According to Yi Gang,  various challenges will require the central bank to maintain a supportive monetary policy stance.

“We will keep our accommodative monetary policy flexible and appropriate, and increase support for key areas and weak links in the economy,”  this was said by Yi in a videotaped speech Wednesday ahead of a meeting of central bank chiefs and finance ministers from the Group of 20 nations in Jakarta.

Volatile internal and external conditions will create challenges for the economy and require more counter-cyclical policy adjustment, he said.

While the PBOC held its policy interest rates steady on Tuesday, many economists expect further easing in coming months. Inflation data on Wednesday added to those calls, with both consumer and factory inflation slowing more than expected in January, and the core consumer price index, which strips out volatile food and energy costs, indicating weak domestic demand.

The central bank projects China’s potential growth rate, or the maximum the economy can expand without fueling inflation, is about 5%-5.7% in the five years through 2025. The objective of monetary policy should be to match actual output with potential, it said in a paper last year.

Economists polled by Bloomberg forecast growth will slow to 5.2% this year after surging to 8.1% in 2021 during the economy’s post-pandemic recovery period.

Yi spoke alongside Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo on a panel discussing how emerging markets can manage the risks of monetary stimulus withdrawal. With the Federal Reserve expected to hike interest rates at least six times, and other major central banks already tightening policy, emerging markets are facing the risk of capital outflows and weaker currencies.

The PBOC hinted at those concerns in its quarterly policy report last week, suggesting it’s paying more attention to the actions of other central banks. The policy divergence between the Fed and PBOC has reduced the yield premium of Chinese government bonds to U.S. Treasuries, increasing the threat of portfolio outflows.

Yi called on emerging economies to increase regional financial cooperation, with a focus on growing the use of local currencies.

Currency swaps that central banks in Asia have set up helps enhance the regional financial safety net and facilitate bilateral trade and investment, Yi said. China is ready to work with other Asian economies to promote the use of local currencies, he said.

“Central banks from advanced economies should continue to enhance market communication,” Yi said. “Meanwhile, emerging markets should improve their resilience. This is where regional financial cooperation has a key role to play.”

MONETIZING YOUR SKILLS: Making Money with Money VS Making Money Without Money.

Early this morning as I lie on my comfy bed reminiscing on my ever increasing schedules today, these thought crept into my mind, “if you cannot make money with money, you may probably not be able to make money with money”.

I began to brood on what the above statement actually means and was able to come up with a layman explanation after many hours of brainstorming. There are two faces to the above statement. One is making money without money and the other is making money with money.

....Here is what I think.

Firstly, making money without money connots doing business as a primary and active source of income.

Secondly, to make money with money means to invest into asset as a secondary but passive source of income.

......Now here is the deal for YOU!

The first thing for you as an individual to start attracting opportunities to make income is to make money without money. Yes, you read right, make money without money!

That can be done by developing a cashflow expertise which can help you render a service to clients or sell a product to customers. For instance, assuming you bake cake (that is your cashflow expertise).

So all you need to do is to use your expertise (cashflow expertise which is cake baking) to transform raw materials (flour, sugar, milk, flavours) into finished consumer goods (cake) for consumers. That is, turning your skills to money or monetizing your skills.

Or, lets say you learnt tailoring or graphics designs. All you need to do is to use your cashflow expertise to solve problems for your customers or clients.

Boom! They will pay you.

Then what do you call that? Making money without money? So once you have developed a cashflow expertise as above you are then in the right position to earn as high as 6-figures as income depending on your quality of work and marketing skills.

Once this is established, you can then start using part of your income to invest into other income vehicles that can increase you cashflow.

One major mistake people make especially fresh graduates and undergraduates is that they always complain about lacking capital. Meanwhile the capital you need is your expertise which will bring in the cashflow.

Secondly, neglecting the days of little beginning is like going contrary to the biblical injuction not to do so. The quick money-making syndrome as well as unrealistic expectation from the society has made those sticking to principles seem confused and irrelevant. Their efforts and progress are grievously mocked.

Finally my  recommendation is  that you focus on learning and mastering a cashflow expertise, become an expert in it and before you know it; boom!

My question to you today is: what cashflow expertise do you have or are you willing to learn so as to have that financial freedom you desire?

END TIME? Lady who Went Abroad Returns Months Later to Discover One of her Kidneys Has Been Removed.

family  is reeling from shock after a medical examination on their daughter who returned from Saudi Arabia showed her right kidney had been remoeved. Thirty-eight-year-old Judith Nakintu underwent a mysterious surgery while in Saudi and her employer only told her that she had sustained injuries in an accident.

A report by the BBC indicated that the mother of five returned home in a wheelchair and to the shock of her family members, she was also struggling to speak as she was partially paralysed.

Nakintu left for Saudi Arabia in 2019, but months later, Nakintu lost contact with her family who were later informed that she had been involved in an accident. Nakintu returned home recently to the shock of her family members who were devastated to see her in a wheelchair and struggling to talk because of partial paralysis.

They took her for a medical examination after her arrival, and doctors found out that her right kidney had been removed  A report by the BBC indicated that the mother of five returned home in a wheelchair and to the shock of her family members, she was also struggling to speak as she was partially paralysed.  It is until her mother took her to the hospital for further examination, that doctors discovered the right kidney was missing.  Speaking to the press, police in Uganda said Nakintu's Saudi Arabian's employer had doctored the medical reports to show that all her internal organs were intact. How did it happen? The Ugandan woman does not remember how and when her organ was removed but all she recalls was that her Saudi boss accompanied her to the hospital for what she had been told would be COVID-19 vaccination.

NTV Uganda reported that upon arrival to the hospital, she lost consciousness and that must be when her kidney was removed without her consent. Her employer lied to her after she woke up from the surgery that she had been involved in an accident.

She noticed that she had strange scars on her body which she could not quite explain. Nakintu arrived in Saudi Arabia in 2019 and a few months after she started working for her employer who has since been identified as Sadaffa Muhamed, she lost touch with her family.

Investigations into incident:

The police in the Yoweri Museveni-led nation said they are waiting on the attorney general's guidance on whether there are sufficient grounds to charge the agency's directors of conniving with foreign nationals. "With such medical evidence, which was sharply contradicting with what was presented as fake, it makes it easy for us to fast-track the process of prosecution," Charles Twine, the CID police spokesperson said adding investigations into the case were complete.

36 hours to APC Primaries, Fake NSCDC and Nigerian Prisons Uniforms floods Osun streets

The Gboyega Oyetola Government in Osun has raised the alarm over the importation of fake uniforms of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC and the Nigerian Correctional Service into the State.

The alarm comes some 36 hours ahead of Saturday’s All Progressives Congress, APC governorship primaries.

The agencies are all under the Interior Ministry superintended by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who has vowed to deprive Oyetola of a second term ticket.

Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Funke Egbemode, who issued the alarm did not accuse Aregbesola, but blamed some “unscrupulous persons.“

She noted that those who stockpiled the fake security uniforms intend to distribute them to some non-state actors to disrupt the primary election and cause chaos in the State.

The government warned those behind the devilish plot to drop the idea, stressing that it had alerted and mandated security operatives to deal decisively with any individual or group that wants to cause violence and destruction in the State.

The statement reads in part: “We are in possession of an intelligence report indicating that some persons have stockpiled the uniforms of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps , NSCDC, and the Nigerian Correctional Service with an intent to distribute them to non-state actors for use during the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primary election in Osun State scheduled for Saturday, February 19, 2021.

“We want to warn those behind this nefarious plot to jettison the idea as security operatives have been put on the alert and mandated to deal decisively with anyone bent on causing violence and destruction in Osun State.

“We also want to appeal to parents and guardians to rein in their children and wards so as not to lend themselves as tools in the hands of these merchants of death and instability, whose only stock in trade is violence and precipitation of crisis.

“Osun is known for peace, and as a responsive and responsible government, we are ready to take all legitimate steps to guard the enviable status very jealously.”

ESSENCE!

Aside from random interview questions that requires you to answer questions on your essence of being, have you ever pondered over the word? What is your essence of being? This question is a new number among HRs. Meaning you are likely to come across this question in your interviews.
However, the essence of this Expo is not to progress solution or give tabla rassa answer to the above question. Rather, to expose some ugly emperics in our education sector as well as stress the need for a state of emergency in the sector.
                    ESSENCE!
The human being exists in two different environments: the external and the internal environment. The external environment comprises the natural and the physical elements, societal laws as well as all forms of external interactions.  The internal milieu on the other hand deals with activities such as our thoughts, feelings and imaginations as well as consciousness. While man’s external environment is objective, the internal environment is subjective. We live in both environments and they help dictate our choices in life. While societal laws and norms may differ externally, personal aspirations which technically defines our reasons for being differs. This can be attributed to one or combination of social, economic, cultural and political factors surrounding the existence of an individual. However, we all want either or all of fame, power, money or what one would generally term a good life which is a function of peace and comfort. Hence, being brought up in a below-average home, struggled financially through school and considering the demand of a typical African society; it would be easy to say that the essence of living for an average African youth is to amass wealth.
With avalanche of untapped opportunities and resources deposited in Africa, it would not be wrong to say that Africa is a continent of hope and light. This is because the future of the world is in Africa. The nationalists who fought for Nigerian independence were not just vocal but educated. That is to say that knowledge and literacy is the first thing towards self-emancipation. Without that, it will be difficult for Africans to take full control of their resources when the time comes hence, a new level of economic colonization which is already ongoing.
According to a report by the Premium Times on April 18, 2019, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) reported that ‘one out of every five’ out-of-school children in the world is in Nigeria. It went further to state that a controversial 13.2 million Nigerian children are out of school in 2019. This figure was a projection from a unique report by UNICEF in 2017 which put the out-of-school children in Nigeria at 10.5 million which is highest in the world. If these empirics are to be correct, it spells doom for the country. However, I have resolved to ensure that as many children as possible get at least basic education in this country. I am looking forward to an organization that can be seen as the highest contributor to education after the government in the country. Building a literate society is a legacy among all else I aspire to achieve no matter what it takes legally. This is fueled by my personal experiences in life.
Finally, do whatever you like but don’t take away my literacy. I am an education freak. Though education is not the end, it is surely a veritable tool to an end. I believe that destinies are linked, and many won’t succeed if I don’t.

ENVIRONMENTAL FEMINISM (FACTS OR FEARS?): WOMAN IN THE CITY OF MAN

It will be regarded as over simplicity on my part or be accused of gender insensitivity to delve into the discussion without defining some key terms that form the basis of the discussion: “woman in the city of man”.  It is also important to bear in mind the setting of this book (as most instances given were based on the realities of the Global North) as well as attempt to discuss it in our local context so as to appreciate the realities of the issues. So I will base this discussion consciously in the reality of the global south without totally neglecting the global stand on the issue.
According to Greed, C.H. (2009),” in discussing the city of man as against the demands of a woman and planning movement one can present a simplistic model of a dualist situation in which all men are to be blamed and all women suffer equally”. The author of this book painstakingly discussed the issue of women subjugation in a society dominated and designed and administered by men for their follow men without due consideration for women. She claimed that women are integral aspect of the environment and the society and should be carried along. The integrity of urban planning and the planning profession also was under scrutiny by the author. Land use zoning, public transportation system, as well as other socio-economic issues as regards to women. However, these issues are the very failures of urban planning as a profession. But on whether the author is right or wrong is a question of how (to what extent)?
In the course of this review I will try to highlight some of the issues raised by the author and then subject them to some theoretical and practical evidences. The question as to whether the author is raising unnecessary dust or being schizophrenic or rather clear accusations or being mentally subjugated shall also be discussed. What actually is the problem with our female professionals? What are we dealing with? Facts or feelings?
Before I proceed into the argument I would like to present these lyrics by the ‘gang of four’:
We have all got opinions
And what we think
Changes how we act
So to change ideas
Changes what we do.
(adopted from the theory toolbox by Nealon J. Et Al.)
Now let's clearly defined a few important terms:
Gender. This refers to the socially constructed characteristics of men and women – such as norms, roles and relationships between groups of women and men (WHO 2018). It varies from society to society and can be changed.
Class. Class according to sociologists refers to a group of individuals who occupy a similar position in the economic system of production.
PATRIARCHY, GENDER AND FEMINISM.
Greed, C.H. (2009) in her book “Women and Planning: Creating Gender Realities” stated as I summarize: while women are structurally and biologically different from men, they should not also determine cultural differences as to:
Who should be responsible for child care.
Who should go out to work.
She attributed it to cultural fabrications caused by patriarchy to the disadvantage of women. Patriarchy in the society can be describe by this brief history by Margaret Ehrenberg as summarized by Hope Benne
During the Paleolithic and Neolithic eras there was almost certainly equality between men and women.  Research and circumstantial evidence reveals that women’s roles were greater than historians had previously acknowledged.  She also asserts that women's status depends largely on their economic role. The more important and independent their economic role, the higher their status. By the time of the Bronze Age, around 2,000 BC, light-weight hoes were replaced by large bronze-tipped plows pulled by oxen.  Men’s strength was needed to handle large animals and heavier plows. Early warfare, defined as one entire group of people fighting another group of people, prompted the need for permanent military forces to protect villages.  These forces were always prepared to drive out invaders, because men’s strength was needed for this effort, warrior men acquired high status. When men fought wars women were forced aside in a subordinate role.
In addition, another setback for social justice, the settled agricultural way of life and the rise of permanent military forces not only led to women becoming subordinated, it also paved the way for the development of social classes.  Warrior men acquired high social status at the top of society, and these men eventually became the first ruling monarchs. Men also handled increasing trade at the end of the Neolithic era and the rise of civilization.  Merchants set out into the unknown, often traveling long distances to find resources and luxury goods for the ruling classes.  These early trade missions, with camels or horses carrying goods, required strength and stamina. Women bearing and nursing children would not have been able to participate in long- distance trade.
In line with the view of liberal feminist, the accused conspiracy of men against women were but an extreme perception of radical feminism. Men only needed increased awareness on gender sensitivity in some issues bordering on who does what domestically and not a conscious effort to sideline them. Obviously, women live in a society where men are seen as the figure and has the finally say but professionally it is not so. In Nigeria for instance, many cultures see men as the head and contributor to discussions. While women are seen as just domestic helpers. This can be seen as a patriarchal tendency but the big question is why? From history it has been so. The role of provision and protection has been given to men right from the creator. This could be the reason many men are seen in the army against the women numerically. This is why men are seen as the head of every household. But as time went by, moving from one socio-political dispensation to another has resulted to both physical and constitutional change of position. As we move through the centuries, man (men and women) changes as well as roles.
In this democratic century,  we have the likes of John Ellen Sir-Leaf the former president of Liberia, Serena and Venus Williams, Theresa May- the British prime minister, Dame Virgie Etiaba- the first female governor (Anambra state) in Nigeria, Alhassan Amina (Mama Taraba), Mrs. Nkoji Okonjo Iweala, Amina Mohammed - Deputy Sec Gen of The UN, Allison Maduekwe, Oby Ezekwesilli, Aisha Yusuf, Late Prof. Dora Akunyili among other notable women across the world who have stood out even among their common ‘oppressor’ -men. These people realized the dictates of the dispensation they are in and took advantage of it. We are in a democratic century with equal opportunities and platform (equity).  Though I understand that there are some limitations placed on women in some religion and cultural setting.
But what about women in countries with barely no physical or constitutional restrictions? Women have accepted the status-quo and are never willing to challenge it except for a few. Apart from the Arabs with strict but lessening laws on certain things concerning women, there is no democratic or political constitution in the world that stated that certain positions in the society are exclusively for men. Then why are women not coming out politically?
However, concerted efforts have been made by government and non-governmental organizations to increase the level of participation of women in politics in line with the declaration made at the fourth World Conference on women in Beijing, which advocated 30% affirmative action. In Nigeria, the extant National Gender Policy (NGP) recommended 35% affirmative action instead and sought for a more inclusive representation of women with at least 35% of both elective political and appointive public service positions respectively.
The national average of women’s political participation in Nigeria has remained 6.7 percent in elective and appointive positions, which is far below the Global Average of 22.5 percent, Africa Regional Average of 23.4 percent and West African Sub Regional Average of 15 percent.
SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN THE WORK PLACE.
Men are not the reason for women exclusion in the society, they are rather the architect of their own problem. The subjugation, belittlement and seclusion are all in their mind and to change it, they will have to change their thought system.
Another issue of importance is the experiences of women in the built environment. According to the author, women are being discriminated against when they sought promotion as well as being sexually harassed in their work places and the streets in the city allegedly made by men for their fellow men. Globally, sexual harassment in the work place has been a serious crime in the built environment and requires urgent attention irrespective of gender and opinion. This is because, like every other form of crime it does not know gender. Women are mostly victims of sexual abuse and bear devastating consequences thereafter. But here is another disturbing and unusual report.
According to a Washington post survey, 10% of men have been harassed sexually in 1990. Between 1990 and 1999, the figure rose from 10-16% in the united states. In Nigeria, The National Council for Women Affairs (2007) affirms that sexual harassment at the workplace mostly affects women and constitutes an obstruction to their apt assimilation into the organization and the labour market. Data from the Federal Office of Statistics (FOS-NBS) indicates that while the percentage of women who have experienced sexual harassment at work ranged from 40% to 68%, only between 9% and 13% of male workers had the same experience within a five-year period. These figures are bound to increase against men with the clamour for homosexuality making waves globally.
In another report, 73% of male against 27% female lost their lives in road accidents in 2017 globally (WHO, 2017).  Meanwhile, Nigeria recorded a total of 8672 road accidents in year 2017 comprising of 74% males and 26% females out of which 79% of the male victims lost their lives against 21% of the female victims (National Bureau of Statistics, 2017). Again I would like to say here that death has no gender and knows no gender. Why is the accident ratio so much in favour of women? (sarcasm). The rate at which men die is worrisome and calls for urgent attention. Why are ‘feminist’ not talking about it? Or don’t we love our men? The burden of provision and protection could be a worthy answer to the question or probably our radical feminists can be of help. This is the same environment planned by men for their fellow men to the disadvantage of women. These excluding cases of kidnapping and robbery that men are involved in, in an attempt to provide and protect women in their sphere. I think: caution is needed in addressing the issue of gender as it relates to the built environment. I am however tempted to accuse environmental feminists of cheer insensitivity and self-centeredness. With the exception of nothing, we all are vulnerable! Crime and death has no exception and worst is expected in the future if we don’t stop the blame game and marry our responsibilities. It will be fair to attribute the anomaly in the environment to the negligence of physical planning, spatial inefficiency among other socio-political and economic factors rather than seeing it as a conspiracy by men. We should however note that problems are not solved by apportioning blames. What you think is your mindset and to change mindsets our perception of issues must change, then our actions. This argument however is more of an ideology than a technical issue.

CLASS, CAPITALISM AND ZONING
As the author rightly put it, ‘women’s concern with childcare, and domestic responsibilities does not fit in easily within urban dichotomies’.  This is because of the fact that segregations are based on the fact that the productive labour force are mostly adult men, and planning is meant for the working class in the society. But recent realities do not quit accommodate the resultant effects of the paradigm shift in gender involvement in the society. Greed in quoting Marx (1875) in his structural theory of society stated that land use segregations were based on public uses while Walby (1986) hinted that little regard was given to women roles in production, reproduction and consumption in the private realm of home.
Men have a king of triangular or articulated form of movement in space and can be demonstrated with the use of a simple triangle as below.

The “triangular movement” makes it easier for a man to commute across with ease as they have limited issues to attend to. Unlike the men, women in their nature have a form of haphazard form of movement which can be represented in a complex web-like pattern of movement. They have to shuttle between home, work, leisure, shopping, childcare and children school. Their complex movement pattern can be represented in the diagram below:

According to a study by daily mail in 2010, man covers an average of 1.5miles per week as against 2.96miles by a woman during shopping. This a fact that no one should argue about but requiring some considerations were possible so as to ensure flexibility in moving between and among uses as Lewis Keeble (1969) pointed out.
However, Greed almost succeeded in making planning what she wanted it to be rather than what it ought to be. While I agree with her on the issues highlighted above, her reasons are not quit acceptable.  Land use planning and subdivision is an age-long planning principle that can be traced back to antiquity. The ancient walled cities were the predecessors for classifying and regulating land based on uses. Outside the walls were where undesirable functions were located due to noise and smell. Between walls were unsanitary and dangerous activities while within walls were for living. The reasons for land use segregation was further buttressed by Hannah in her book, “The Human Conditions”: she stated that industrial revolution, cultural and socio-economic shifts led to increase in enforcement of urban regulations. Overcrowding, pollution and squalor associated with factories were major concerns that led city officials and planners to consider the need for functional separation of uses (Sonia: origin and implications of American land regulations, 2014).
On this note, I will like to disregard some of the statements by the author as they are mere insinuations fueled by unavoidable feeling of victimhood. Hence, land use zoning and subdivisions are pure planning principles to safeguard the environment and public health so as to ensure sustainability. However, this has unconsciously affected not just women but men as well though at different scale and dimension.

THE OUTWARD GROWTH OF CITIES AND TRANSPORTATION.
The argument as per who drives the car is really not an academic debate from my perception because, it is solely a private issue which is dependent on the priorities of individual households and what they agree on. Factors bothering on cost, convenience and flexibility (geography, and location) all comes into consideration when deciding on who drives the car. These factors however are place and person specific and should not be generalized for the sake of equity and sensitivity.
We live in a country (Nigeria) where virtually everything seems not to be working properly including emergency services. So, having a car is an addition and a huge incentive during emergencies especially when the woman can drive (because women are the ones with the children most of the time). But what happens when they cannot drive? Some women especially the unschooled ones find it difficult to drive due to fear. While some believe it is a man thing, others can’t just believe in themselves. This is why I always advocate for women to learn driving irrespective of social class.
On the other hand, effective public transport system is what we should be advocating for in this century of sustainability, so as to minimize urban pollution and congestion with special consideration for women and nursing mothers. Hence, public transport system should be restructured to accommodate the different needs of women in a sustainable way. Like the author rightly stated, “women’s lack of mobility is often seen as their own fault and not an urban structural issue”. “Women’s justified fear for their safety, an issue linked to travel, may be diagnosed as a disease such as agoraphobia or even schizophrenia (the inability to distinguish reality from unreality)” (Ussher, 1999).
Focas (1989;168) view of creating a policy to encourage women to obtain a driving license and drive whenever opportune would have been a viable option. But unfortunately, urban planning has moved on from that- if it is not environmental friendly, it shouldn’t be it.
DISTRICT PLANNING.
“Zoning problems combined with the capricious dispersed locations of essential local facilities such as schools, shops, and health facilities has compounded the problems of women by creating time-budgeting problems and inconveniences (Bhride, 1987)”.  This according to Greed affects all classes of women and are viewed as unprofessionalism when trying to combine home activities with their job. Some male professionals often see women as not being for certain jobs. They also argue that women should retire to where they belong “kitchen”. So an average African woman is at risk of abandoning her career or exchanging it for the so called domestic activities. The atmosphere is not friendly at all for women especially in the global south, as they are exposed to a number of issues ranging from taunts to outright abuse. However, many have rose through the psycho-social anomaly to becoming great women in the society- judiciously combining career and family without compromise. At this point, it will be right to say that women have the inherent ability to perform better than men in several aspect of the society with their ability to multi-task.
But then, there is another twist in the argument when the author quoted Attfield (1989); “ironically, although neighbourhood units might be seen as falling on the domestic, female home side of the public/private dichotomy and may be most inconvenient for women to inhabit, often with shops, schools, and factories in opposite directions, involving additional walking and worry”. She however sees the neighbourhood concept as an artificial concept based on a sentimentalized ideal of community.
The neighbourhood design on the contrary, is based on the principle of integrating land uses within a cluster of buildings or group of settlements called neighbourhoods at certain service radius. The idea of service radius is to create a form of convenience, flexibility and fairness in the distribution of uses within the neigbourhood. While some households may be closer to some activities others are farther from it, yet they enjoy a form of equity in the location of facilities and services. But arguing about these things is wanting to have everything at your door step in the name of feminism. The fact that women have to worry about some issues like the high steps outside their front door and other women unfriendly designs are why we need female professionals in the field.
The provision of childcare facilities within the built environment should also be integrated into housing design to ensure women participation in the development of the society, as well as given them a sense of belonging. Planning principles and standards should be enshrined into the building by-laws (codes) and should form the basis for vetting building plans and land use subdivisions by physical planning authorities.

If you are ready to run your own business, consider any of the following 13 business ideas.
1. POULTRY FARMING:
Do you know that you can set up a poultry farm of about 100 birds with as little as #50,000 (fifty thousand naira = 128.37USD) and make as much as  #250,000 (641.83USD) income within just 4 months? This is no exaggeration. A 100 birds at your backyard with a simple cage, water and feeding troughs, lantern, charcol cooker, few drugs and feeds. The amazing thing is that you can as well make your feeds but it is advisable to start with feeds sold in the market first so you can understand better the science of feed formulation. Your birds mature in 3-4 months depending on your feeding intensity.  Assuming you arrested the 100 birds and sell at the rate of #2500 (6.42USD), you will have an income of #250,000 (641.83USD) assuming the cost of raising the birds is 20%of your income. This is just the first quarter of the year. You can sell to hotels, restaurants, relaxation joints, homes and supply for events and wholesalers. This is no magic!

 2. PLANTAIN PLANTATION:
Obviously this requires that you have a plot or piece of land to set up.apart from just having a piece of land, you need nothing else but plantain or banana suckers and optionally munure to start. This is an amazing and lucrative business that most people have not discovered yet. Plantains and bananas botanically known as Musa Sapientum va Parasidianca is planted between 1.5 and 2 metres interval and thrive with moderate rainfall and sunlight. It takes between 8-10 months to mature. A bunch of plantain or banana goes for a minimum of #1500 depending on your location and specie. So it is important to consider the specie before buying of pulling them from the farm.
Now here is the metrics, assuming a 2m interval, you can plant a minimum of 105 plantain or banana suckers on a 15m by 30m (450sqm) plot of land.
At maturity, assuming you sell a bunch at a flat rate of #1200, you will have an income of about #126,000 for 105 bunches. Remember you need not buy new suckers for replanting.
Remember that this is just around estimate. You can plant as much as 150-200 suckers in your 450sqm plot of land and can sell as high as #2000 per bunch.
Do you also know that you can intercrop your plantain/banana with other crops such as cassava, Mellon, pineapple, vegetables, etc.? Double income right?
The capital for this venture depends on the cost of a piece of land in your location. Lucky you if you already have one somewhere. This business requires less stress.
3. BAKERY AND BAKED PRODUCTS:
Baking is another line of business that can generate a lot of income to you as a student, wife, corps member or a worker looking for another stream of income. You can make huge huge income from baking of cakes, chops like doughnuts, samosa, peanuts, puff puff, chin chin, meat pie, fish pie, egg roll, fish roll and other varieties of deserts that exist. It requires Bo publicity or as little as telling your family and friends to patronize you and the trend continues. Once you master your art, you can provide these services to offices, homes, families, friends and even distant friends on their special days and occassions. A start up capital as low as #5000 (12.84USD) can set you up. You can use your stove and pot as oven for a start, your frying pan or spacious cooking pots for frying.

Yeah! I like food but that is not the reason it is on this list.  Food stuff business is one of the most lucrative businesses anyone can venture into. It is the buying and selling of food stuffs such as rice, beans, groundnut, maize, garri, stock fish, cray fish, smoked fish, etc. I can reliably tell you that People who sell these food stuffs makes hundreds of thousands of naira annually. A close friend of mine once told me how he became financially free by selling food stuffs on retail basis.
There are two ways to this:
First is, you buy in large quantities preferably in bags and then distribute to your awaiting customers on arrival. You don't need a shop to do this business but customers who are scattered all over the streets and markets.
Secondly, you can still buy in bags and sell in custard buckets or cups. Or buy directly from the wholesalers as mentioned above.
Your only qualification is to know where to gets these food stuffs at a cheaper rate and how to move it down to your location at a considerable cost.
A minimum start up capital of about #50,000 (128.37USD) is required to start up this business.
5. MOBILE LAUNDRY SERVICES:
A 21st century laundry services does not necessarily require a stationed shop to operate. In as much as that is not a bad idea, you can start up a mobile laundry services from the comfort of your room. I started this business in 2012 before I gained admission into the university and I never regretted ever doing it.  The only qualification is CAN YOU WASH AND IRON WELL?  If  YES, then you are qualified. The next requirements is to own a good pressing iron,  plastic basins for washing, and detergents. One other personal skill in laundry services is your ability to separate cloths to avoid stains, carefulness, neatness and the ability to know which detergent to use for a given cloth type.  Your customers are scattered all of offices, banks, neighbours and friends. Your friends and neighbours including association members can  make worthy clients for a start. Your hand work can then speak for you. Some of these things works on referral basis. You you do my work well, I will tell my friends about you. So your handwork speaks for you.

COVID-19: HOPE AS 21% HAS CORONAVIRUS ANTIBODIES.

The N.Y state has 263,460 confirmed cases of coronavividae virus out of which 15,740 people have died, with 438 of the deaths on Tuesday alone. While the death rate has been fallen, the number of new COVID-19 hospitalization is also flat.
However, the widespread antibody testing by the New York government revealed that about 21% of New York residents  randomly given CORONAVIRUS antibody test returned positive. This was contained in a statement by governor Andrew Cuomo in a news conference on Tuesday and reported by the Time Magazine.
The test also known as a Serologic test looks for the presence of antibodies which are specific proteins made in response  to infections according to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
THOUGHT 🤔: THAT IS THE FATE OF NEW YORKERS AND THE WORLD IF SOME OF THOSE WHO TESTED POSITIVE RECOVERED ON THEIR OWN? COULD THIS BE A NEW LIGHT IN THE QUEST FOR A CURE FOR COVID-19 PANDEMIC?

DRAMA AS NCDC OFFICIALS DRAG CORPSE WITH FAMILY.

There are about 189 confirmed cases of covid-19 in Nigeria out of which 197 has been discharged and 31 deaths. This was contained in in the COVID-19 daily updates by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday.
It was reported that members of the NCDC went to Badore in Ajah to transfer a reported COVID-19 patient to an isolation centre. But unfortunately, the man had already died before they arrived. Drama ensued when the NCDC officials tried to take custody of the man's corpse and the aggroeved family members refused.
As reported by a Twitter user @Nerdy_Dopey, the family members and the area boys were literally dragging the diseased corpse with the NCDC officials who were in their customer PPE while both the family members and the area boys as well as the onlookers including the mediators where all without any form of protection. It was a like a game of thing of war said the reporter.
As at the time of compiling this report, the Ajah area has not been lockedown neither has the family memebem all all concerned individuals quarantined.
STAY SAFE.... REPORT ANY SUSPECTED CASE TO THE NCDC.
